Haiti’s Silent Revival

Haiti has been traditionally been seen as the voodoo-land; but in light of recent history that vision needs to be changed. The fact is, since the fall of Duvalier in 1986, a silent tide of spiritual revival has been rising up in that land. The January 12th earthquake unleashed an unstoppable flood of conversions.

According to the Haitian Federation of Protestant churches, from 1986 to 2006, the Haitian evangelical community has grown from about 10% in 1986 to about 50% of the general population. But since the earthquake, people have been getting saved by the thousands every day. Allow me to illustrate with a personal testimony: while in Haiti last week, I, along with a pastor friend of mine, Andre Muscadin, decided to call an impromptu day of repentance. Although we made announcement only one day in advance over 10,000 people showed up at the Champs-de-Mars and 1,000 of them accepted Christ (see media coverage below). My case however is not unique; people have been getting saved all over the place in Haiti. As a friend of mine in Haiti noted, “On the day that earthquake shook Haiti, no one called on the traditional gods of Haiti, and everyone was calling on the name of “Jesus”.

I am asking the Christian Media outlets to please consider producing programs about the spiritual revival that is occurring in Haiti right now.

I have been interviewed by a number of secular media [such as, CNN, ABC (covered the event), RFI (Radio France Internationale), Radio Canada... and other media from Brazil, Colombia… ], they do not seem to be too much interested in reporting on the spiritual side of the story. I am asking the Christian Media outlets to please give voice to that great work that God is doing in Haiti.

I have been laboring and trusting the Lord for this revival for many years to Haiti. I have written a book called Jezebel Unveiled that analyzes Haiti's core problem. In that book, I argue that Haiti fundamental issue is not political or economical or geographical, but spiritual.

On the night 14-15 August 1791, the Haitian forefathers made a pact with Queen of Heaven (mentioned in Jeremiah 7:18; 44:17), under the name Erzulie Dantò and dedicated the country to her. Since then, we have been bound by the powers of hell; in order to move forward, we need to break that pact.

Haiti finally got the message; that is why, while outsiders are asking “What did Haiti do to deserve such a calamity?”, Haitians are saying rather: Nou fè trop (“We have done too much”), Fok on jou Bondye ta frappe pie’l ate pou’l di asse(“We knew one day God would stump his foot and say: “enough””)… This is the sentiment that is fueling the present revival in Haiti.

Right now, in Port-au-Prince, the place that is supposed to be the bastion witchcraft, not single drumbeat is being offered to the Haitian gods; one only hears, around the clock, the handclaps of old and new evangelical believers, asking God to have mercy on their land and rejoicing by faith for the new Haiti that God is creating.

Please, help us get the word out. Thank you very much for your help.
